Dr Matt Provencher here. So for those watching the Rams game, you just saw left tackle Andrew Whitworth go down after his left knee was struck from the outside by an opposing player. When this happens, the concern is for an MCL injury as the knee is struck from the outside, and this is the MCL which is a very thick broad ligament on the inside of the knee that, when struck on the outside stretches and tears to a certain degree. Hopefully, it's just MCL, but since his knee was in a little bit of a flexed position, the other ligament that we worry about if there's a lot of force across this knee is also the ACL. And if there's enough of a force, it can open up the MCL and also tear the ACL, which we certainly hope is not the case. If it's just the MCL, Andrew could be out 2 to 3 weeks, but perhaps come back sooner because this is something that can be braced well. But if it's MCL, plus that inside ACL ligament. Unfortunately, his season may be over. However, we will wait for additional confirmation from the Rams organization regarding Andrews injury. Andrew, good luck on your recovery.
