Drew Brees Cracked Ribs
Everything you need to know about Drew Brees rib injury

Saints quarterback Drew Brees took a pretty significant hit to his chest wall, and we certainly suspected rib fractures. And now it's been confirmed that Drew Brees now has multiple rib fractures, both on his right side, and was probably dealing with some from a prior injury in Week nine. In addition, it's been reported that he has a collapsed lung, and I think this is probably a partial collapse though, which can happen when you have rib fractures, especially multiple rib fractures, because the end of those rib bones air really sharp and can easily puncture the lining of lung. This is a partially collapsed lung, most likely and that will heal really well. But it's the rib fractures that we worried about, especially since there on both sides the rib fractures on the right. It's his throwing shoulder, so you have to be able to generate force through the ribs and through the muscles of the ribs and through that actual skeleton to be able to have the shoulder throw with speed as well as accuracy. So multiple cracked ribs as well as a collapsed lung means that Drew will likely be out anywhere from 3 to 5 weeks and I think it's going to be on the longer side of that because he has rib fractures on both sides. He may be back in time for the playoffs, but certainly needs to be cautious. And when he returns, his production will likely be down about 10 to 12% especially since it's on the same side as his throwing shoulder and has multiple rib fractures that he has to heal. Drew, good luck in your recovery. We look forward to seeing you back on the field soon. Download the all new Fox Sports App now.
